Olivier Rousteing, designer at Balmain since 2011 and influenced by the former designers at Balmain – Erik Mortensen, Herve-Pierre, Oscar de la Renta – and by the confident style of today´s women, creates a perfectly matched couture that incorporates Balmain´s mastering of tailoring and classic couture with modern design.
Rousting´s FW15 campaign fronted by IT-girls such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid was a global success and his hashtag #BalmainArmy were all over social media.
As trends change and take new paths and forms, Rousting is taking a turn back to the 90´s and Balmain SS16 fronted by Cindy, Naomi and Claudia will debut in leading fashion titles worldwide in February 2016.
Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer the new iconic members of #BalmainArmy have inspired us for many decades and they are also as Olivier Rousteing says “confident, professional and graceful”.
Shot by photographer Steven Klein for the first time, there are no lighting tricks or special installation. The combination of Pascal (creative director), Steven and the powerful women was more then enough for the shoot.
” Watching Cindy, Claudia, Naomi and Steven instinctively work together, I was struck by the displays of confidence, professionalism and grace in front of me. There was never any doubt that the final images would be anything but perfect. Looking at them now, I like to think that perhaps someday these shots might also form part of some future designer’s mood board”. – Olivier Rousteing
The quintessentially Parisian house of Balmain has managed to retain its unique position as both a historic French house and as a leading trendsetting brand.
Balmain has always proudly remained true to the vision: to embrace boldly feminine and opulent couture to women, and trailblazing spirit of its founder, Pierre Balmain.
“Jolie Madame”, Balmains signature style offered a startling contrast to the relaxed and utilitarian looks of the day (post World War 2) – and the richly embroiled fabrics, nipped-in waists and longer, fuller skirts became popular among celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Brigitte Bardon, Josephine Baker, Katherine Hepburn and Sophia Loren.
